SIOUX CITY -- Roger Lee Hasek, 89, of Sioux City, longtime Riverside Hardware owner, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services for Roger will be 1 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Torey Lightcap officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Mr. Hasek was born Dec. 29, 1921, in Sioux City, the son of Ivan and Alta Hasek. He graduated from Central High School and the University of Nebraska. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in October of 1942, and later transferred to the U.S. Naval Air Corps. He received his commission from Columbia University Midshipmans School and was sent to the South Pacific for the duration of World War II.

On Nov. 6, 1947, he was married to LaVonne Marolf in Sioux City. In 1946 he was employed by Hauff Sporting Goods for two years and then Mann Sporting Goods for five years. In 1953 he opened the Hasek Sporting Goods Store at 423 Jackson Street and operated it until 1964, when he purchased Riverside Hardware, which he owned until 2010.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and boater.

He is survived by his wife, Vonnie Hasek of Sioux City; daughter, Lynne (Ron) Eaton of Sioux City; son, John Hasek of Fairview, Mont.; daughter, Julie Cornelia of Carson City, Nev.; daughter, Laurie (Lynn) Kucks of Omaha, Neb.; and daughter, DeDe (Shane) Frisch of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; five grandchildren, Christa Davis, Shane Robak, Chris Robak, Duke Hasek and Lauren Frish; and one great-grandson, Cash Roger Davis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Lee Hasek; twin brother, Robert; and another brother, Ivan.
