SIOUX CITY -- Harlan Schlumbaum, 79, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Assembly of God, with the Rev. Al Weiss officiating. Burial will be in Holstein, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church. Harlan was born June 21, 1931, to Fred and Hattie (Smith) Schlumbaum in Holstein. He grew up in Holstein and moved to Sioux City in the late 1950s.

Harlan married Carol Holman on June 27, 1969, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Sioux City. He was a truck driver for Meyer Beef and Rosenthal Foods, retiring in 1990.

He enjoyed hanging out and drinking coffee with his buddies. Harlan was a member of First Assembly of God. When Harlan was 45 years old, he accepted the Lord as his personal Lord and savior.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of Sioux City; his sons, Chuck of Virginia Beach, Va., Steve and his wife, Jane of Fort Myers, Fla., Daniel and his wife, Sue of Del Rapids, S.D., Mike and his wife, Sue of Sioux City, James of Sioux City, and Bob and his wife, Jodi of Sioux City; his daughter, Patti Dupic and her husband, Kelley of Sioux City; his brother, Donald Schlumbaum and his wife, Jan of Seattle, Wash.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Harlan was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Schlumbaum; and brother, Raymond Schlumbaum.
