SIOUX CITY -- Walter C. Dietschy, 52, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Visitation and luncheon with the family will be 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Online condolences may be posted at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.

Walter was born Dec. 26, 1958, in Sioux City, the son of Alfred and Janice (Keifer) Dietschy. He attended school in Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Army from 1976 to 1981.

While in the service, he met Gabriele Schleehahn and the couple married July 17, 1981, in Darmstadt, Germany. The couple had two children, Alfred and Jessica. After the service, Walter worked as an over-the-road truck driver until his disability in 1986.

He enjoyed camping and riding motorcycles.

Survivors include his wife, Gabriele Dietschy of Sioux City; his children, Alfred (Tammy) and Jessica (Chad) Dietschy of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Alaina, Thomas and Walter of Sioux City; sisters and brother, Deb (Dennis) Kimsey of Ankeny, Iowa, Shirley (Jerry) Murdock of Sioux City, George Benzel of Sioux City and Ila Larson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Janice Dietschy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
