SIOUX CITY -- Bonnie Lou Kenney-Mitchell, 82, of Sioux City died Friday, May 13, 2011, at her daughter's residence following a courageous battle against cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church in Bronson, Iowa, with Pastor Cyndy Ripperger officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Bonnie was born Sept. 29, 1928, in Bronson, the daughter of Cecil Glenn and Rena Edna (Bryant) Kenney. She grew up in the Bronson area. The family farmed near Hartington, Neb., for a short time before returning to Bronson. Bonnie graduated from Bronson High School in 1945. She attended business school in Sioux City.

She married Cleo Elmer Mitchell on Feb. 17, 1947, in Sioux City, where the couple made their home.

Bonnie was employed at American Popcorn Co. for a short time, then at F.W. Means/Aratex Service Inc. as a secretary for more than 30 years. She retired in 1980. Cleo died Dec. 21, 1991, in Sioux City.

She was involved in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Aerie No. 77 for more than 42 years, serving as local president, state president from 1983 to 1984, and west central area president. Bonnie was a wonderful seamstress. She enjoyed doing needlework and crocheting. She was an avid reader and loved to dance. She would travel anytime she got a chance, especially to see any of her grandchildren's events. Bonnie attended Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her four daughters, Sharon K. Arthur of Sioux City, Jackie Ann (Kevin) Ogren of Carrington, N.D., Mary Jean (Mark) Thompson of Bronson, and Sheila (Rick) Mefferd of Bonner Springs, Kan.; her three sons, Clifford E. (Sue) Mitchell of Wellington, Fla., Kenney B. (Barb) Mitchell of Wiota, Iowa, and Robert P. Mitchell of Bronson; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; her brother, Pat (Connie) Kenney of Sioux City; and her sister, Joan (Larry) Mosier of Bronson.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Mary Ann Kenney; and a son-in-law, Daniel Arthur.

Memorials in Bonnie's name may be made to Hospice of Siouxland.
