DANBURY, Iowa -- Ellie Mohrhauser, 96, of Danbury died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Danbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Len Garrison officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Liston Township Cemetery, Danbury. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a service by the American Legion Auxiliary at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Esther Eleanor "Ellie" Mohrhauser was born March 5, 1915, in rural Pierson, Iowa, the daughter of Lester Clayton Bell Sr. and Maude Ethel (Staufer) Bell. The family moved to South Dakota for a time and various locations in Iowa. During this time Ellie attended country schools.

She first married Eldon Webb and the couple had two children. They later divorced. On Aug. 29, 1941, Ellie married Bernard Carl "Barney" Mohrhauser in South Sioux City, Neb. They had four children together. The couple renewed their vows in 2000 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Danbury.

The family lived on various farms in the vicinity and settled in Danbury in 1958. Barney passed away May 21, 2002. Ellie remained in her home for a time and was a resident of Willow Dale Wellness Village in Battle Creek, Iowa at the time of her death.

She was a member of the Danbury United Methodist Church and longterm member of the Danbury American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered at the Battle Creek Group Home. She enjoyed her talent as a seamstress and creating needlework projects.

Those survivors cherishing their memories of Ellie include two daughters, Bonnie Sohm and her husband, Richard, of Lead, S.D. and Mary Mohrhauser of Waukee, Iowa; two sons, Mike Mohrhauser and his wife, Carol, of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Rex Mohrhauser of Onawa, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Alberta "Bert" Leisinger; one son and his wife, Eldon "Pidge" Webb and his wife, Jan; one sister, Arlene Bell; and five brothers, George, Marion "Tuff," Gordon, Max, and Lester "Buck" Bell.
