SIOUX CITY -- Gary Randolph Saul, 64, of Sioux City died Monday, May 2, 2011, at his residence.

Services will be noon Friday at Four Directions Community Center in Sioux City, with the Rev. Anne Scissons and Deacon Pat Roberts officiating. Military rites conducted by the U.S. Army will follow the service Friday at Four Directions. Following Friday's service, and abiding by his wishes, the body will be cremated. Visitation will begin today and continue until service time Friday at Four Directions. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Gary was born June 27, 1946, in Winnebago, Neb., the son of Emerson and Sibble (Buffalochief) Saul. He served in the U.S. Army from October 1963 to 1967.

He married Tami Jo Westin on April 19, 1986, in Sioux City. She preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 1998, in Sioux City. He was employed as a social worker with the Indian Center in Omaha as a drug counselor.

He was a member of St. Paul Indian Mission Church. In his free time, he loved to make God Eyes, do bead work, woodworking and carvings. He also was an avid reader, reading various titles and always loved Stephen King books.

Survivors include two daughters, Althea Mason of Bellevue, Neb., and Vanessa Saul of Sioux City; a stepdaughter, Lynn Hewitt of Sioux City; a stepson, Jerry Johnson; three brothers, Emmett Saul, John Saul and Samuel Saul; three sisters, Alice Saul, Elizabeth Saul and Vanessa Saul; four grandchildren, Gary and Alexyn Woods, Lakotah LaPointe and Nevaeh Saul; and a great-grandchild, Renee Woods.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Emery, Stanley and Roger; and two sisters, Janet and Patty.
