Danbury, Iowa—Dr. Robert G. “Doc” Sheumaker, 79, longtime Danbury veterinarian, died Saturday, April 27, 1996, at his home.
Services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Danbury with the Rev. Sheryl Ashley officiating. Burial will be in Liston Township Cemetery, Danbury. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. Visitation will also be 9 a.m. Tuesday until service time at the church.

Dr. Sheumaker was born Oct. 12,1916 at Tingley, the son of Harry and Gertrude (Crouch) Sheumaker. He grew up in the Tingley area and graduated from Iowa State University in 1940 with a degree in veterinary medicine. He then moved to Mapleton where he practiced until 1983, when he retired. He married Jean Anderson June 21, 1944, in Danbury.
Dr. Sheumaker was a member of the United Methodist Church in Danbury, the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association and Iowa State University Alumni Association. He was a life member of the American Veterinary Medical Association; 50-year member of Quarry Masonic Lodge 404, Scottish Rite Bodies and Abu Bekr Shrine Temple. He was a past member of the Siouxland Board of Health American Association of Swine Practitioners, Danbury City Council, and the Danbury and Maple Valley school boards.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Susan McLuen of Spokane, Wash., Ellen Beightol of Denver, Col., Joan and her husband, David Davis of Rapid City, S.D. and Nancy and her husband, Stephen Rendall of Pleasant Hill; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a sister.
