SIOUX CITY -- Gladyse Thelma Spaulding, 82, of Sioux City died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at a local care facility.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff, with the Rev. Roger Madden of First United Methodist Church officiating. Private family graveside service will be Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home. Gladyse was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Sioux City, the daughter of Howard A. and Gladyse I. (Tallman) Arfman. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She attended and graduated from Oak Park Academy in Nevada, Iowa, and attended college for two years.

She was united in marriage to Boyd J. Spaulding on Feb. 9, 1950. The couple later divorced. She worked at Stockyards Insurance for more than 28 years as an agent. She was one of the top ten performers in insurance sales in the state of Iowa for many years.

She was a former member of the Police Auxiliary and the Stockettes. Gladyse was an avid bowler, winning many trophies. She enjoyed playing golf and bingo with her many friends. In her later years, she enjoyed playing cards and board games with her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a long loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs and loved watching poker on television.

She will be missed by her family which includes her two daughters, Cynthia and Sandra of Sioux City; her sister, Carol Lea Gill of Walla Walla, Wash.; her four grandchildren, Melissa Wikstrom, Heather Spaulding, Amy Wikstrom, and Alison Wikstrom; and her three great-grandchildren, Jade Wikstrom, Daniel Wikstrom II, and Jordan Wikstrom.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and three brothers.
