SIOUX CITY -- Dr. Richard E. Getman, 82, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at his home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gentry-Morrison Northside Chapel in Lakeland.

Dr. Getman was born in Guthrie Center, Iowa, on Nov. 30, 1928. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1958 from the Illinois College of Optometry. He practiced optometry in Sioux City for 24 years.

He was a member of the American Optometric Association and the Iowa Optometric Association, the Masonic Order, Scottish Rite and Shrine. He was past president of the Sioux City Lions Club. Mr. Getman was also very proud of receiving the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.

Richard has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to either Shriners Hospitals, 12502 USF Pine Drive, Tampa, FL. 33612-9411 or the North Lakeland Presbyterian Church, 6725 N. Socrum Loop Road, Lakeland, FL. 33809-6134.
