SERGEANT BLUFF -- Evelyn Rose Dean, 87, of Sergeant Bluff died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Alan Dean officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mrs. Dean was born Oct. 15, 1923, in Sioux City, the daughter of George and Mable (Smith) Hutchins. She married Burrell Dean on May 19, 1940, in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 1993. She was employed at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center as a nurse's aide until her retirement in 1968.

She was a member of Cornerstone World Outreach, and the Sioux City Gospel Mission Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed embroidery, wood crafts, ceramics and was an Atlanta Braves fan. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of them all.

Survivors include four sons, Gary Dean and his wife, Joyce of Sioux City, Alan Dean and his wife, Barbara of Spencer, Iowa, Richard Dean of Sergeant Bluff, and Scott Dean and his wife, Misty of Moville, Iowa; two daughters, Marsha McKeever of Estherville, Iowa, and Susan and her husband, Daniel Goodwin of Salix, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Fred Hutchins; and a sister, Joyce Hawkinson.
