SIOUX CITY -- Robert J. Galles, 70, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at a local hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Richard A. Sitzmann officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Robert was born the son of John E. and Edith M. (Hoffman) Galles on July 30, 1940, in Le Mars, Iowa. He graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1959, and later graduated from Westmar College with a degree in science. He went on to become a registered respiratory therapist. Robert married Marie Ann Tonner on May 26, 1972, in Sioux City.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965. He was a member of the American Legion in Le Mars, during his service time, where he marched with the Colonels in the late 1960s. He was inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Jags in 2005. The Jags were formed in 1959 and their hit record was titled, "Hey Little Girl."

Robert enjoyed golfing, fishing, cooking and playing guitar. He lived for his family, spending lots of time with his granddaughter, Jade. He had a great love of all animals.

Robert is survived by his wife, Marie Ann of Sioux City; one son, Robert Galles II of Sioux City; two daughters, Gretchen Galles of Le Mars, Iowa, and Michelle Galles of Newport Beach, Calif.; one sister, Julie (Ron) Kunkel of Moville, Iowa; and one granddaughter, Jade Galles of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Siouxland Humane Society.
