Carolina was born June 24, 1918, in Malabon, Philippines, the daughter of Felipe and Jacinta (Talisi) Cruz.

She married the Rev. Regino C. Martin Sr. in 1933. As a wife of the Methodist minister, Carolina spent most of her early adulthood as a missionary and Sunday School teacher in Manila, Bulacan and Nueva Ecija, Philippines until her husband's passing on Jan. 12, 1970. She immigrated to America in 1976 and spent the remainder of her life taking care of her grandchildren in Sioux City, Saginaw, Mich., Rapid City, S.D., Anchorage, Alaska, and San Antonio, Texas.

Carolina was a dedicated member of United Methodist Church and had participated in the church choir and women's groups for most of her life. She loved to sing, cook and be with her family.

Survivors include her five children, Merlin and Naomi Martin of Kissimmee, Fla., Regino and Cornelia Martin, Reyner and Nelia Martin, Gary and Evelyn Peterson, all of Sioux City, and Marvin and Rosalie Martin of San Antonio, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren throughout the United States and the Philippines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Regino; two sons, Marvin and Israel; and her daughter, Ruby.

Special thanks to Carolina's lifelong friend, Mildred Hathaway. Also thank you to Dr. Kissel, the Rev. Nea Huggins, Touchstone Living Center and Hospice of Siouxland for the extraordinary care given to Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, the family will be established a memorial.
