SIOUX CITY -- Former Sioux City resident Peggy Brousard, beloved wife of Walter, passed away at age of 81 in Mission Viejo, Calif., on Dec. 25, 2010, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born on Sept. 13, 1929, she attended Sioux City Central High School and Briar Cliff College.

She married Walter L. Brousard in Sioux City on Nov. 4, 1950. They moved to Long Beach, Calif., in 1954. Peggy and Walt later lived in Dallas, Texas, Sydney Australia, Long Beach and Laguna Niguel, Calif. They made many close friends at each stop in their lives.

Her silent, strong presence and discretionary manner set an example for her children. She stood for honesty and sincerity and the preservation of manners and class in living one's life. She was a woman from a time when being a housewife was a proud vocation. The kitchen was her office; many friends of her children would pop in and bask in the joy of her kitchen. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble, and many memories were made there. She took much pleasure basking in the warmth of her family and friends. At Christmas, her home was always the focal point of gatherings, love and joy. It is a bittersweet irony that she passed on Christmas Day.

We are ever thankful that she was blessed with the love of her husband, Walter, who remained at her side and ministered to her every day during her years of her illness.

She is survived by her husband, Walter; sons, Michael of San Clemente, Calif., (Cathy), and Mark of Byron Bay, Australia (Rose); daughter, Jill of Long Beach, Calif.; and sisters, Henrietta Stine of Sioux City, and and Virginia Larsen of Mt. Vernon, Iowa. She leaves six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.

She is preceded in death by sisters, Betty Hine and Gloria Feyder, both of Sioux City.

She will be deeply missed.
