MOVILLE, Iowa -- Dortha Lee Manly, 84, of Moville died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at United Methodist Church in Moville, with the Rev. Harold E. Werley officiating. Graveside services were held Saturday, June 22, in Arlington Township Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville.

Mrs. Manly, the former Dortha Lee Bishop, was born Sept. 12, 1917, in Keyser, W.V., the daughter of Frank and Grace (Penner) Bishop. She graduated from Keyser High School and enlisted in the Women's Army Corps in 1943. She served with the Signal Corps at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., as a cryptographic technician.

She married Ronald Manly on Aug. 9, 1946, in Washington, D.C. The couple moved to Moville in 1947.

She was a member of United Methodist Church, served as a past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, past president of the Moville Women's Club, member of the American Legion Auxiliary and secretary and treasurer of the Moville Chamber of Commerce for 19 years.

Dortha took great pride in three things, her roots in West Virginia, her service in the Armed Forces at the Pentagon and above all, her grandsons. She will be missed by all.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Rhonda and Charles Carnell of South Sioux City; three sisters, Mildred Keedy of Keyser, W.V., Marie Ritter of Winchester, Va., and Betty Mullens of Yorba Linda, Calif.; a brother, James "Bud" Bishop of Irvington, Va.; and three grandsons, Ryan, Aaron and Garett Carnell. Dortha had a special relationship with Betty Tracewell Flaten, who she thought of as a daughter and friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Manly; a daughter, Linda Jane Manly; two sisters; and two brothers.
