SIOUX CITY -- Mark A. Mercer, 50, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, in Sioux City.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Mark was born on April 7, 1960, in Sioux City, the son of Harley and Clara (York) Mercer. He attended school in Sergeant Bluff. In the 1980s, he worked on a crab fishing boat in the Pacific waters off of Washington and Alaska. Later, he worked in the bayou of Louisiana. Mark returned to the Sioux City area in the early 1990s. On Jan. 23, 2001, he was united in marriage to Lizabeth Sanford in Elk Point, S.D.

He was a great story teller and enjoyed working with children. Mark loved to fish, hunt and was very artistic, whether gardening, landscaping or making tattoo art. He enjoyed relaxing with friends.

Mark is survived by his wife, Lizabeth and her sons, Aaron and Samuel Slotsky; his son, Dylan Raptopoulis; his daughter, Melinda "Mindy" Mercer; his mother, Clara; two brothers, Eddie Mercer and John Mercer; his sister, Robin; several grandchildren; his uncle and aunt, Kenny and Lenice Mercer; his cousins, Nick and Angie Mercer, and their children, Saige, Hunter and Aliana; and a lot of caring friends, which include Heath Campbell, Adam Dudley and Amber McPeak, and their children.

He was preceded in death by his father.
