William L. "Bill" Wingfield 1922-2010

SIOUX CITY -- William L. "Bill" Wingfield, 87, of Sioux City passed away Aug. 9, 2010, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Third Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Paul Spiedel of Westlawn Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Bill was born Aug. 31, 1922, in Sioux City, to William T. and Olive Mae (Warnholtz) Wingfield. He attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Central High School in 1940. Bill proudly served during World War II with the U.S. Navy as a machinist mate second class.

On Oct. 8, 1949, he married Louise F. Molden at Morningside Presbyterian Church. He was a life long resident of the Sioux City area. He was a postal employee and retired in 1977, as the manager of the Morningside branch.

He was a life time member of Third Presbyterian Church. He led a very active life and was involved with the Triangle Masonic Lodge, Sioux City Scottish Rite, Abu Bekr Shrine and the American Legion Monahan Post. Bill loved telling stories, hunting, shooting trap, target practice, reading, being a cartoon artist and script writing. He also was a member of NARFE.

Survivors include his wife, Louise at home in Sioux City; five children, Cynthia and Donald Sardeson of Ankeny, Iowa, Michael and Stacy Wingfield of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Sandra and Greg Shaffer of Centennial, Colo., Rod Wingfield of Aurora, Colo., and Anita and Doug Milner of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Virginia Ping; and a half brother, Charles LaVere Wingfield.
