SIOUX CITY -- David M. Smith, 59, of Sioux City lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at Countryside Retirement Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.

David was born July 16, 1951, in Sioux City, to Ellison G. and Patricia A. (Nally) Smith. He graduated from Heelan High School in 1969. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

He married Jill Jammerthal on Aug. 30, 1986, in Akron, Iowa. He was a loyal and devoted U.S. Postal Service for more than 30 years, receiving numerous awards for perfect attendance.

He was a person full of life and enjoyed being with his family and friends. He enjoyed his work and was an avid sports fan.

He is survived by his wife, Jill; his mother, Patricia; three sisters, Patricia (Thomas) Dale of Birmingham, Ala., Theresa (Steve) Ambrose of Sioux City and Joan (Dave) Mastricola of Williamsburg, Va.; and eight nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ellison G. Smith.
