SIOUX CITY -- Michael R. Muckey, 66, of Sioux City passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Countryside Senior Living following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.com.

Michael was born June 2, 1944, in Sioux City, to Max and Doris Muckey. He graduated from East High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Morningside College. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.

He taught English and Sociology at the Little Priest Tribal College in Winnebago, Neb., from 1976 to 1980. He worked as a probation and parole officer for the Iowa Department of Corrections, Third Judicial District, from 1980 to 1987.

Michael loved to read and write poetry, and he was a friend of Bill W.

He is survived by several family members including a longtime friend, Lynn Haugen of Sioux City.
