SIOUX CITY -- Ruby A. Hoxsie, 60, of Sioux City died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at her residence, surrounded by family, following a brief, brave battle with cancer.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. David N. Zirpel officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Waterbury Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Ruby was born in Parkston, S.D., on Sept. 29, 1949, the daughter of Wilbert E. Sr. and Audrey M. (Beutner) Zirpel. She was united in marriage with Darrel Hoxsie on Sept. 15, 1968, in Woonsocket, S.D. This marriage was blessed with four beautiful children.

The family came to Sioux City in 1981, and made their home here. Ruby worked for more than 29 years as a restorative care aide at Indian Hills Care Center, now Touchstone Living Center, where she enjoyed her work in helping the residents of the facility. She also enjoyed raising her own family and seeing them grow as individuals. Ruby enjoyed her hobbies of crocheting and reading, and will be remembered as a huge fan of Elvis.

Ruby will be missed by her family which includes her loving husband of 41 years, Darrel of Sioux City; her four children, Daniel (Angela) of Sioux City, Doyle and his special friend, Mendi of Dakota City, Rochelle Weideman (Jim) of Sioux City, and Renae Szczepanik (Stas) of Sioux City. Ruby is also survived by her 11 grandchildren; her mother Audrey; her four brothers, Wilbert Zirpel Jr., Wayne Zirpel (Laurie), Clyde Zirpel (Mona) and Bryan Zirpel; and her two sisters, Ruth Nelson (Ronnie) and Mary Ann Dammon (Steve).

Ruby was preceded in death by her father and one granddaughter.
