Nina M. Rush 1914-2010

SLOAN, Iowa -- Nina M. Rush, 95, Red Oak, Iowa, formerly of Sloan and Onawa, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Community Church of Christ in Sloan, with Dr. Emery Killian officiating. Burial will be in Sloan Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rush Family Care Service at Onawa, Iowa. Condolences may be left on line for the family at www.rushfamilycareservice.com.

Nina was born Oct. 7, 1914, in Ticonic, Iowa, the daughter of John and Zilla (Napier) Riley. She was raised south of Turin, Iowa.

Nina and Lovay "Curly" F. Rush were united in marriage on Nov. 10, 1931, in Dakota City. The couple farmed in the Whiting and Sloan areas before moving to a farm in Hastings, Iowa, in 1955. They later farmed in Griswold, Iowa until 1968, when they retired to Red Oak. Lovay passed away in March, 1984, in Red Oak. Nina worked for Bordeaux in Clarinda, Iowa, and later at Communication Data Services in Red Oak.

Nina was very artistic and enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting. She will long be remembered for her delicious home-cooked meals and hand-crafted clothing and crocheted items.

Survivors include two sons, Clarence (Roxanne) of El Paso, Texas, and Francis of Red Oak; grandchildren, Kimberly (Allen) Stoler, Rebecca (Timothy) Scoonover, Kelly (Nathan) Wilcoxon, Gerald (Janelle) Vance and Stanley (Rosa) Vance; seven great-grandchildren, Madisen, Evan and Jordan Stoler, Hanah and Abigale Scoonover and Spencer and Thomas Wilcoxon; five sisters-in-law, Florence Riley of Onawa, Paz Riley of Topeka, Kan., Elizabeth Riley of Storm Lake, Iowa, Dixie Riley of Joplin, Mo., and Rose Rush of Junction City, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
