SIOUX CITY -- Jon C. Gordon, 61, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, in Dakota City from injures suffered in an automobile accident.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army Reserves. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Jon was born Jan. 25, 1949, in Sioux City, the son of Cecil Gordon and Pauline (McAdams) Neimela. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. He served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam Conflict. After the service, he attended Sioux Empire Community College.

Jon married Marie "Charlene" Felix on Feb. 27, 1970, in Sioux City. She passed away Nov. 4, 2006, in Sioux City. He worked for Floyd Valley Packing Co. for more than 10 years. He had been employed with Sigler Fire Equipment for the last 24 years.

He collected knives and war memorabilia. He was an animal lover and took in raccoons, turtles, rabbits, any animal that needed a home. He enjoyed attending his nieces' and nephews' athletic events and Saturday morning breakfast with his brothers and friends. He was easy to talk to and enjoyed listening to a story or two, the juicier the better. He loved going to auctions, gun shows, car shows and trips to the Harley shop. He and his brothers loved learning about history, especially Sioux City's. He rarely missed an opportunity to visit Lake Okoboji on the 4th of July and Labor Day. He was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first grandchild, Leona Charlene.

Survivors include a son, Jeremy Gordon and his fiancee, Erika Rhods of South Sioux City; a brother, David Gordon and his wife, Suzy of Sioux City; a sister, Dawn Woock and her husband, Kevin of Sioux City; and a granddaughter, Leona Charlene is expected any day.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Charlene; two brothers, Ronald and Jerry Gordon; and a sister, Mary Jo.

Pallbearers will be Landon Gordon, Owen Gordon, Wayne "Butch" Gordon, Nicholas "Nick" Gritzmaker, Chad Palmer and Jimmy Cole.
