SIOUX CITY -- Robert G. "Bob" Creek, 86, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at a local hospital following a brief illness.

Private family services will be held Saturday. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Bob's life at noon Saturday at the Two Rivers Golf Course in Dakota Dunes. Per his wishes, his ashes will be placed on the estate of Dan and Beth Rosenbaum near the river he dearly loved. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Bob was born June 9, 1924, in Anthon, Iowa, the son of Charles and Oda (Admire) Creek. He attended school in Anthon. During the mid-1940s, he was united in marriage to Betty Quinn.

Bob worked in the automotive department of Sears, specializing in tires. He retired in 1986. After retirement, he worked his five acres in South Dakota, growing melons, tomatoes and squash. He sold much of his harvest out of his house for 25 years, and was widely known as the "Melon Man".

Bob is survived by his three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty; his daughter, Mary Van Donselaar; a granddaughter, Laurie Van Donselaar; a great-granddaughter, Katrina Haberman; and two brothers; and two sisters.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Audubon Society or the American Cancer Society.
