Otto Junior Herbold, the son of Elizabeth (Jones) and Otto John Herbold, was born Sept. 18, 1920, rural Kingsley. He was the third of five children born to his parents and attended rural Kingsley country school.

Junior met the love of his life, Marguerite Loretta Petersen in Pierson, Iowa, and on Dec. 3, 1940, in Ponca, Neb., the couple was united in marriage. Their union was blessed with a daughter and four sons. Junior farmed his father's farm south of Kingsley, where he was born and raised.

Herbold Livestock Auction was built and operated by Junior for a number of years. After selling the sale barn, Junior and Marguerite moved to Arizona, where he worked in a construction business with his sons, and also, at the Morrisons Bros. Dairy. They returned to the Iowa communities and church that he so loved. Junior was employed at TERRAGRO in Moville for the next 14 years. He retired at the age of 87.

Throughout his life, Junior was devoted to his faith and his membership at the First Lutheran Church in Kingsley, where he was also baptized and confirmed. Junior was a member of the first confirmation class in the church, and later served as an elder and numerous office positions. His father was one of the original founding members of the church. He was looking forward to celebrating the First Lutheran Church's 75th anniversary next June.

Junior was a huge supporter of and served on the board of the Woodbury County Fair, for which his efforts were rewarded with a lifetime pass. Many area residents may recall that Junior was an avid chuck wagon racer and a member of the Woodbury County Chuck Wagon Association.

Junior treasured time spent with his family, visiting with his friends, going for rides to check out the happenings in the country, and truck and combine driving. He was proud of and dearly loved his church, his family and his wife, Marguerite. Junior and Marguerite looked forward to celebrating their 70th anniversary this coming December.

Junior is survived by his wife, Marguerite of Lawton; his children, Michael (Evelyn) Herbold of Mission, Texas, Dianne (Steve) Riser of Moville, Craig (Linda) Herbold of Jefferson, S.D., Monty Herbold of Mesa, Ariz., and Scott (Suzanne) Herbold of Lawton; his sister, Gola (Roger "Red") Bales of Sioux City; his two sisters-in-law, Lois Pottorff of Moorhead, Iowa and Caroline Christophersen of Pierson; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; special friends, Gene Willems and Julie Jasperson; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Preceding Junior in death are his parents, Otto and Elizabeth; his three sisters, Marcella Clausen, Dorothy McConnell and Marjorie Mahrt; and his brother, Norman Herbold.
