CUSHING, Iowa -- Gwendolyn Grell, 94, of Cushing passed away on Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. John Lutheran Church of Cushing, with the Rev. Curtis E. Benson officiating. Burial will be at the Cushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. today at the church. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville is in charge of the arrangements.

Gwendolyn Grell was born Sept. 19, 1916, to Irwin B. and Alta (Law) Whyte. She graduated in 1934 from Cushing High School.

Gwen married Edmund W. Grell on Nov. 24, 1937, at the Grell farm in Cushing. Three sons were born to this union, Richard, Martin and Conrad. Gwen and Ed raised their family in Cushing. Gwen worked at Colonial Manor of Correctionville in the dietary department for 13-plus years.

Gwen loved spending time with family, playing bingo and card clubs. She also loved reading, playing games and was a member of the League of Women. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her sons and their wives, Richard (Sally) Grell of Wyoming, Martin (Jane) Grell of Colorado, Conrad (Judi) Grell of California; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Susan (Randy) Bean, Kim (Clay) Keleher, Jill (Mark) Howard, Lisa (Steve) Gregg, Terri Wildt, Lynette (Christian) Jacobs, Brock (Amy) Grell, Angella Castellano, Stephanie (Ian) Peachy; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Grell; her parents, I.B. and Alta Whyte; brothers, Roland Whyte and Melvin Whyte; sister, Charlotte Huitt and husband, Al; brothers-in-law, Joe Stoneking and Arnold Grell; sister-in-law, Lareta Whyte; and great-grandchild, Mason Ashley.
