CUSHING, Iowa -- Norma Elizabeth Susie, 80, of Cushing passed away on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at her residence in Cushing.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. today at St. John Lutheran Church of Cushing, with Rev. Beverly Wolff officiating. Burial will be in the Cushing Cemetery at Cushing. Arrangements are under the direction of Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein, Iowa.

Norma E. Susie was born on June 30, 1930, to Walter and Elizabeth (Schwenk) Schug in Ida Grove, Iowa. She graduated from Ida Grove High School.

Norma and Vincent Susie were married on Nov. 26, 1948, in Ida Grove. To this union four daughters were born, Sandra, Kathleen, Jean and Rosemary. The couple started farming, and the family lived on a farm east of Cushing.

Norma loved flowers and gardening, reading, was a member of a book club, quilting, playing cards and spoiling her grandchildren. Family was very important to her, and holiday gatherings were always memorable. Norma made a special effort at Christmas to give every member of the family a bucket of homemade caramel corn. She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church of Cushing.

Norma is survived by her husband of 62 years, Vincent Susie of Cushing; daughters, Sandy (Hap) Kounkel of Merrill, Iowa, Kathleen McCabe of Sullivan, Mo., Jeannie (Roy) Williams of Holstein, and Rosemary Visser (Peter) of Garner, Iowa; grandchildren, Tyler Kounkel, Jay Kounkel, Leslie McCabe, David (Ambrosia) McCabe, Jeffrey (Gina) Williams, Joseph (Renee) Williams, Tara Heeren, Joshua Visser, Virginia Visser and Jacob (Ariel) Visser; great-grandchildren, Connor, Natalie, Levi, Aiden and Camren; and one sister, Verona Steuk.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Elizabeth Schug; brother, Leslie Schug; sister, Eunice Susie; a grandson, Kelly Heeren; and a great grandson, Marshall Williams.
