SIOUX CITY -- Joy Jeannine Slauter, 81, of Whitter, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Oct. 13, 2010, following a brief battle with leukemia.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Glendale Community Baptist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Frank Gillett officiating. Her children held a memorial service in California.

Jeannine was born to Marjory (Donnell) Green and Dean Green in Ponca, Neb. The family moved to Iowa when she was four years old, where she grew up. Her teen years were spent in Sioux City, where she graduated from Central High School in 1947.

Jeannine married Richard "Dick" House in 1949. Seven children were born to this marriage. They then moved to California, where her parents lived. They later divorced and she raised her children by herself and with the help of Dick's parents. They were raised in a Christian home.

When they were raised, she married William "Bill" Slauter and they moved to Oregon. These were very happy years and she became a wonderful quilter. After his death in 2000, she returned to Sioux City and attended Glendale Community Baptist Church again. She resided with her mother until 2007, when she returned to Arizona and California to be near her children. She lived in an assisted living facility due to arthritis. There she delighted the others with her cheerfulness and her gift of quilting and sewing, which she shared with all.

Survivors include her children, Dirk and Tammy House of California, Darcy and Terry Collins of Arizona, Mark and Sharon House of Colorado, Marcine and Bruce McUmber of Nevada, Rick and Tracy House of Kentucky, and Brad and Abie House of California; a sister, Gay Gray of Hinton, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Glenna Green; 25 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Frank; and a brother, Monty Green.

She is now happy in the arms of our Lord.
