SIOUX CITY -- John J. Paczosa, 96, of Sioux City died peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Nov. 27 at Holy Spirit. There will be no public visitation or services held as John had requested that his remains be donated for research to the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. John was born on Nov. 20, 1914, in South Sioux City, Neb., the son of Frank and Genevieve Paczosa. He was a lifelong resident of the Sioux City area. He honorably served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army from 1939 to 1945, retiring as a staff sergeant.

He was united in marriage with Helen Morris. Helen preceded John in death on 2001. John was employed as a clerk for the Illinois Central Railroad for 34 years.

He also was a former member of St. Francis Catholic Church and Immaculate Conception Parish. He was a current member of the Holy Spirit community.

John will be missed by his family which includes his sons, Bruce (Nancy) of Orland Park, Ill., and Gary (Debra) of Spring, Texas; his four grandchildren; and his five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Helen; one brother; and three sisters.
