SIOUX CITY -- James C. Francis, 85, of Sioux City died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church. The Rev. Gary Snyder will officiate. Burial will be Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

James was born May 29, 1925, in Sioux City, the son of John P. and Elizabeth (Farley) Francis. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1943. He attended Michigan State University. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and with the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

On Feb. 14, 1953, he married Marguerite E. "Peg" McQuirk in Sioux City. She died on April 29, 1986. Jim worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 42 years and retired in 1987.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, American Legion Post 64 and United Transportation Union. Jim enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his three sons, David Francis and his wife, Valerie Chase of Westminster, Colo., James Francis of Commerce City, Colo., Lawrence Francis and Lori Muckey of Sioux City; his daughter and her husband, Rebecca and Hal Davison of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandchildren, Trevor and Connor Davison; a brother and his wife, Michael and Judith Francis of Sioux City; his sister, Patricia J. Francis of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland, the endowment fund for Heelan High School or Briar Cliff University.
