SIOUX CITY -- Billy W. Bower, 81, of Sioux City died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at Touchstone Living Center, following a short illness with mesothelioma.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Billy was born Oct. 29, 1929, in Sioux City, the son of O.T. and Alice (Smith) Bower. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City Schools. Billy graduated from Central High School and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He married Deanna McMeekin in September 1961. Billy was a sheet metal worker and worked for several years for Interstate Air Conditioning and then for Metal Specialists. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Union Local 3.

Billy enjoyed fishing, golfing and going to Hy-Vee for coffee with his friends. He was a member of the Boys of 68.

Survivors include his wife, Deanna of Sioux City; two sons, Barry Bower and his wife, Julie of Sioux City, and Mark Bower and his wife, Michelle of Hornick, Iowa; three sisters, Shirley Edwards and her husband, Clyde of Sioux City, Esther Hoeck of Morehead, Minn., and Betty Kuhlmeier of Baton Rouge, La.; and four grandchildren, who he dearly loved, Jennifer, Breanne, Madison and Marshall Bower.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John and Pete Bower, and an infant brother, George; and three sisters, Juanita Perkins, Virginia Hoppe and Hazel Bramble.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Keith and Craig Jensen, Rodney Bursick, Larry Bower, Wayne and Ron Hoeck.
