SIOUX CITY -- Barbara E. Willoughby, 66, of Sioux City died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at her residence.

Memorial services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with Monsignor Roger Augustine officiating. Per her wishes, she donated her body to science and will be buried at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Barb was born on Jan. 4, 1944, in Sioux City. She was the daughter of Robert and Frances (Everett) Doherty. She was raised in Sioux City, attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and graduated from Heelan High School in 1962. She attended Briar Cliff College and earned her Doctorate of Education from the University of South Dakota.

On Feb. 13, 1965, she married Paul Willoughby in Sioux City. She worked as a lab tech at St. Vincent's Hospital during the 1960s. After earning her degree in counseling, she worked as a counselor in Sioux City for Jackson Recovery.

Barb enjoyed sewing and knitting. She loved water aerobics and the Silver Sneakers with the Y. She was a member of the board of directors for Women Aware and served on the Ethics Board of Certified Counselors. Barb was a longtime and active member of Alanon. Her husband Paul died on Feb. 12, 2001 in Sioux City.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Paul and Andrea of Ogden, Iowa, and her daughter, Colleen Willoughby of McCook Lake, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her brother and his wife, Tom and Frances Doherty of Leewood, Kan., and a sister and her husband, Mary Jane and Lew Stahl of Cody, Wyo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Karen Willoughby; a son, Frank; and a brother, Michael Doherty.

A memorial has been established in her name and may be directed to the family.
