SIOUX CITY -- Scott David Smith, 56, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at his residence from health complications.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Private graveside services will be held in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Scott was born Sept. 24, 1954, in Albert Lea, Minn., the son of Gerald and Ruth (Nelson) Smith. He graduated from Ventura (Iowa) High School in 1973.

He married Suzanne Vipond on Feb. 14, 1981, in Omaha. He started his career with Fareway Food Stores in 1971 and continued to work for them until 1999, when he started his own business as a product merchandiser. He founded the business S & S Distributing through Mission Foods on April 4, 2000.

He enjoyed hunting, golfing and cheering on his Hawkeyes and Vikings. Scott loved his German shepherds and his K5 Blazers, but his greatest love was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was active with the Boy Scouts as the boys were growing up in Scouting. He was a caring, loving, funny, hardworking and wise man. The family has lost a great husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, brother and friend.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Suzanne; nine children, Elizabeth and husband, Will, Christine and husband, Mark, Jennifer and husband, Carlton, Tom and wife, Sarah, Tony and fiancee, Jen, Katie, Tim and significant other, Stephanie, Tyler and Kelsey; grandchildren, Ashley, Sarah, Sydney, Kaylee, Ellie, Ethan, CJ, Coby and Alexandria; his father, Gerald Smith; and brothers, Durin and wife, Paulette, Mark and wife, Nancy and Paul and wife, Sara.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth; and brother, Brian.

Memorials may be given to the family in Scott's name.

We miss him so much and he will always and forever be deeply embedded in our hearts and minds. He meant so much to us. We miss you and love you.
