SIOUX CITY -- Patrick Murphy, 76, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present at 6 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Patrick was born March 31, 1934, in Sioux City, to Dr. John and Helen (Fitzpatrick) Murphy. As a child, Patrick was raised in Danbury, Iowa, where he also received his education. Patrick served in the U.S. Army from July 1956 until his honorable discharge in July 1958, having been stationed in Germany.

Patrick married Patty Short on Sept. 28, 1962, in Denver, Colo. When the couple relocated to Sioux City, Patrick began his career with St. Luke's Hospital, working his way up to the art director's position, retiring after serving 20 years in 1990. He joined the staff on the Belle of Sioux City in 1995, now the Argosy Casino of Sioux City, retiring earlier this year as a slot tech.

Patrick could best be described as an explorer and artist, having an adventurous spirit, never passing on opportunities to learn from experience, along with leaving his artistic talents through paintings and drawings sharing his "Peace, Love & Joy." Patrick's devotion to his family and to his faith will be his legacy.

Patrick is survived by his wife, Patty; children, Lucy Kowaleski and her husband, David and their children, Hillary, Nick and Max, Patrick "Jim" Murphy and his wife, Noriene and their children, Britt and Skyler, Sean J. Murphy and his wife, Kristy and their children, Bailey and McKenna, Kevin Murphy and his wife, Jenny and their children, Kyra and Myranda, Daniel B.
