SIOUX CITY -- VernaMae L. Aspleaf, 87, of Mountain Lake, Minn., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, at Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Brent Christensen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

VernaMae was born April 2, 1923, in Wentworth, S.D., the daughter of Arthur and Grace (Reynolds) Kukuk. Her family moved to Sioux City in 1928. She attended high school at Oak Park Academy in Nevada, Iowa.

She married Alfin Aspleaf Sr. on Oct. 24, 1942.

VernaMae was a longtime member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, watching TV and doing puzzles.

Survivors include two sons, Al Aspleaf Jr. of Osage Beach, Mo., and Danny Aspleaf and his wife, Marilyn of Sioux City; three daughters, Cindy Blanchard and her husband, Allen of Sheridan, Wyo., Candy Zook of Marion, Ind., and Kim Friesen and her husband, Dale of Windom, Minn.; two brothers, Dean Reynolds of Los Angeles, Calif., and Donn Kukuk and his wife, Sharon of Sun Valley, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren, Jody, Troy, Dean, Tena, Darcy, Cami, Sean, Durinda, Todd, Tiffany, Megan, Keely, Shea, Gregg, Alex and Rachel; 28 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Oral, Robert and Bruce Kukuk; and a son-in-law, Alan Zook.

Pallbearers will be Troy and Dean Aspleaf, Sean Aspleaf, Todd Blanchard, Shea Goldberg, Gregg and Alex Wilson and Spencer Aspleaf. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Blanchard and Dale Friesen.
