SIOUX CITY -- Elfrieda Mech, 82, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, in Sioux City.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Elfrieda was born July 10, 1929, in Germany, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Singer) Heinzmann.

On Aug. 14, 1950, she married Victor Mech in Germany. She emigrated from Germany and had been a lifelong resident of Sioux City on the old homestead. She was a homemaker and a production worker at Randall's formal wear for about 11 years.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church until its closing and currently Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She participated in numerous church benefits and functions.

Elfrieda enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her cat, Sammy Boy. She always enjoyed company and was a sociable person. During those times, she enjoyed playing cards with her visitors. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking.

Survivors include her daughter, Elfrieda (Mech) and her husband, David Garvis of Maryland and their children, David Garvis of Virginia, and Christopher Garvis of Sioux City; a son, George and his wife, Mae Mech and their daughter and her husband, April and Cory Rausch of Davenport, Iowa; a son, Wally and his wife, Darlene Mech of Minnesota; Wallys' son and his wife, Eric and Laura and their children, Ricky, Grant and Jack Mech; Wally's daughter and her husband, Molly (Mech) and Matt Thompson and their children, Caroline and Allison Thompson; a son, William Mech Sr. of Sioux City and his children, Tim Mech of Sioux City, Cassandra (Mech) and her husband, Toby Barnt and their children, Braxton, Breleigh and Blaize Barnt, Krystal (Mech) and her husband, Lee Lohff of Yankton, S.D., and their children, Autumn and Kaleb Lohff, Nicholas Mech of Sioux City, Brianna Mech and her fiance, Mitch Glover and their son, Cylas of Yankton, William Mech Jr., and Jonathan Mech of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Victor; and Little Victor and Sarah Mech.

Pallbearers will be Chris Garvis, David Garvis, Eric Mech, Tim Mech, Nicholas Mech, William C. Mech Jr., and Jonathan Mech.
