SIOUX CITY -- Kathy Ann Buffington, 55, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Thursday, June 10, 2010, at her residence.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.com.

Kathy was born Sept. 2, 1954, in Sioux City, the daughter of Marvin A. and Mildred T. (Brown) Zinn. She lived in Akron, Cleghorn and Lu Verne, Iowa, in her early years.

Kathy married Jon Buffington on Sept. 4, 1971, in Lu Verne. While the kids were young, she was a stay-at-home mom. She had worked at the Titonka, Iowa, care center as a dietician. She and her husband, operated a vending company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before relocating the business to Sioux City. She managed Blind Daddy's Cafe in the County Courthouse in Sioux City.

She had been a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed reading and doing stain glass. In 1990, she received a volunteer award from Governor Branstad. The most important part of her life was spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Jon of Sioux City; three children, Jennifer and her husband, Brian Pearce of Mason City, Iowa, Jason Buffington and his wife, Beth of Lake Bay, Wash., and Kristy Buffington and her fiance, David Zavala of Sioux City; a brother, Ron Zinn and his wife, Christina of Dows, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Alexis, Jordan, Brayden, Kenadie, Jessica, Amanda, Jayden, Joshua, Jonathon, Ethan, Miracle and Natalia; and two great-grandchildren, Suri and Ireland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Mildred Zinn; and her father and mother-in-law, Ilo and Folina Buffington.

Honorary pallbearers will be Amanda Buffington, Jessica Buffington, Alexis Jackson, Jordan Jackson, Miracle Lopez, Rick Vanorder, Rob Myers and Albert Gosnell.
