SIOUX CITY -- Robert C. Temple, 84, of Sioux City died Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Merlin Schrad will officiate. Burial of the ashes will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.

Bob was born Sept. 22, 1925, in Elk Point, S.D., the son of William and Alice (Donnelly) Temple. The family lived in Elk Point and then moved to Ute, Iowa, where he graduated from high school. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater until his discharge in 1945. He was a torpedo man on the USS Brister, a destroyer escort ship.

After his time in the service, he came to Sioux City where he met his future wife, Constance Wood. They were married on June 4, 1949, at the Cathedral of Epiphany. Bob was a longtime insurance salesman in Sioux City. He owned his own agency for many years.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a longtime member of the Sioux City Country Club and the Sioux City Boat Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was also a handyman's handyman. The most important part of Bob's life was spending time with his wife, his children, and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Connie of Sioux City; three sons, Craig (Mary) of Kansas City, Mo., Tom (Bonnie) of Minneapolis, and Bill of Bloomington, Minn.; two daughters and their husbands, Liz (Chuck) Baxter of Sioux City, and Cathy (Mark) Stensrude of Prior Lake, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Craig and Ben Temple, Dana (Mike) Herman, Logan Temple, Jessica and Nick Baxter, Rhett, Temple and Marin Stensrude; a great-grandchild, Grace Herman; his sister, Patricia Peacock; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Temple.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, SR. Madonna Temple, O.S.F.; and his brother Tony.

Memorials prefered to be designated by the family or to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
