SIOUX CITY -- Edward H. Jaacks, 97, of Kingsley, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley, with the Rev. Duane Miesner officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Correctionville City Cemetery, Correctionville, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Mr. Jaacks was born Dec. 9, 1912, in Platteville, Wis., the son of Adolph H. and Emma Anna (Scheel) Jaacks. The family moved to Remsen, Iowa, in 1913, where he was baptized. He was raised in Correctionville.

He married Alice M. Mann on Feb. 16, 1938, in Sioux City. The couple moved to Sioux City around 1957. He was employed as a mechanic for the Iowa Department of Transportation from 1957 to 1977, when he retired. Alice passed away July 15, 2002, in Sioux City. He lived in Kingsley from 2002 until moving to Sergeant Bluff in 2008. He returned to Kingsley in 2010.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Kingsley. He enjoyed working on cars and working in his vegetable garden. He also liked to travel, play golf and spend time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include seven sons and their wives, Gary and Kay Jaacks of Santa Ana, Calif., Jim and Jerri Ann Jaacks of Sioux City, Stanley and Linda Jaacks of Phoenix, Ariz., Ron and Tammy Jaacks of Platteville, Wis., Randy and Debra Jaacks of Woonsocket, R.I., Dennis and Judy Jaacks of Omaha and Monte and Stacy Jaacks of Sergeant Bluff; two daughters, Kay Duke of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Jolene "Jody" Riemenschneider and her husband, Don of Kingsley; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Verna Jaacks of Kingsley; a son-in-law, Gary Roepke of Merrill, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a daughter, Carole Roepke; four sisters, Alma Peter, Ethel Jones, Ella Mathers and Ruth Wright; and three brothers, Alfred, George and Richard Jaacks.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Memorials may be directed in his name to Hospice of Siouxland.
