.SIOUX CITY -- Dorothy M. Borchardt, 92, of Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service today at the funeral home.

Dorothy Mae Borchardt was born Oct. 19, 1918, at Anthon, to Elbert and Mabel (Fitchner) Vaughn. She lived in Anthon until 1937. She attended Miller Township Elementary School and graduated from Anthon High School in 1936. She stayed on the farm and helped her parents until January 1937, when she went to Sioux City to work. She cashiered at the Martin Hotel Restaurant and the Fabric Center. She went to Chicago in 1939, and was employed with the Muter Electric Company there.

She married Frank Holman in April 1942 and to them was born one daughter, Janet. Dorothy returned to Sioux City in 1953, and was employed with Spiegel's, J & R Auto Hardware Store and Sally's Fashion Shop in the credit department. Later when they sold the stores here, she was employed with the Duplicating Products, a Division of 3M. She married Leslie Borchardt in 1959 and moved to Minnesota, where she lived until 1997. The last four and a half years she lived in Minneapolis, she was employed with Town and Country Pharmacy.

While in Minnesota, Dorothy did some volunteer work with the Salvation Army (Harbor Light) and taught a Bible Study class for Damascus Road for sometime. She also belonged to the Prison Fellowship Program for several years. She attended the Buchanan Avenue Baptist Church in Sioux City.

She is survived by a brother, Robert Vaughn and his wife, Jeannine of Urbandale, Iowa; two grandsons, Christopher and Mark Gordon of Phoenix, Ariz.; nieces and nephews; and two stepsons, Charles and Dale Borchardt of Minnesota.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Gordon; her parents; and two brothers, Walter and Harold Vaughn.
