SIOUX CITY -- Frederick Dale Rupp, 77, of Sioux City passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, in Breckenridge, Colo.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of the Nativity, with the Rev. Dan Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Fred was born Feb. 4, 1933, in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Fred N. and Matilda (Wilberding) Rupp. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1951. He attended Wayne State College before enlisting in the U.S. Army for two years.

He married Joan Talty on June 8, 1957. He worked for Cherokee Lumber until 1967, when he moved to Sioux City to manage Hawkeye Building Supply until his retirement.

Fred was a longtime member of the Associated Building Material Distributors of America, where he served as president from 1984 to 1986. He also was active in the Sioux City Builders Supply Distribution Association, Health and Fun Days and participated in cardiac rehab for more than 20 years.

He loved anything athletic. He played lots of golf and enjoyed watching sports on T.V. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends at Bob Roe's. A highlight in Fred's life was the trip with his three sons to the Masters.

Survivors include his wife Joan; three sons, Rick and his wife, Justi, Bill and his wife, Darinda and Dave and his wife, Christa; seven grandchildren, Chelsea and her husband, Joe, Hailey, Meghann and her husband, Brandon, Jake, Nick, Jackson and Hudson; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Sage; four sisters, Irene Bortscheller, Shirley and her husband, Rudy Sims, Norma Clark and Mary and her husband, John O'Leary; and a brother, LeRoy Rupp.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Marie Bortscheller, Walt Rupp, Laura Fragenberg, Eleanor Dahlem, Don Rupp and Leo Rupp.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Roe, Robert Rehan, Ted Saltzman, David Sabag, Keith Welcher, Robert Huisenga, John Sauer and Jack Rickert.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center or the Mercy Heart Rehabilitation Center.
