Esther B. Ahlers, age 68, of Danbury, Iowa, died on Friday, March 24, 1989, at a Sioux City, Iowa, hospital, following a short illness.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 1989, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Danbury, Iowa. The Reverend James Tigges officiated. The burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, near Danbury, Iowa. Visitation was after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 1989, with a rosary at 3:30 p.m. by the Rosary Society and at 7:30 p.m. by the parish in the Walter Funeral Home at Mapleton, Iowa.
Mrs. Ahlers, the former Esther Klein, was born on February 24, 1921, to Anthony and Mary (Steichen) Klein at Alton. She lived at Alton until her marriage to Odilo Ahlers on November 28, 1940, at Alton. The couple lived in Alton, Granville, and Salix, Iowa, moving to Danbury, Iowa, in 1984, where she lived the remainder of her life.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Danbury, Iowa, and the Rosary Society.
Survivors include her husband; five daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Maryann) Roth of Ashton, Frances Hennings of Sioux City, Iowa, Mrs. Kenneth (Susan) Krueger of Danbury, Iowa, Mrs. Alan (Gloria Jean) Martin of Bronson, Iowa and Mrs. Mike (Carla) McClennen of Sioux City, Iowa; seven sons, Roger of Fremont, Nebraska, Leland of Orlando, Florida, Russell of Fremont, Nebraska, Roy of Sioux City, Iowa, Mark of Magnolia, Illinois, Paul of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, and Jeff of Sioux City, Iowa; three brothers, Gerald Klein of Granville, Anton of Reading, Minnesota, and George of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two sisters, Anna Marie Budden of Ashton and Mrs. Edward (Ages) Vonderharr of Granville; thirty-two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Luke; and a sister.
Pallbearers were Esther’s grandsons—Douglas Roth, Robert Roth, Dean Hennings, Daniel W. Sullivan, Michael J. Ahlers, James Martin, Ryan McClennen, William Krueger, Daniel Roth, Dale Hennings, Jr., Matthew Leyva, Michael Runge, Alan Bud Martin, Jeremy McClennen Edward Cote III, and Kyle Krueger.
