Effie P. Till 1919-2010

HORNICK, Iowa -- Effie P. Till, 90, of Hornick went to be with her Lord Friday, May 28, 2010, at the Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hornick United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Township Cemetery, near Rodney, Iowa. Visitation will be two hours prior to service Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Effie was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Smithland, Iowa, the daughter of Jay and Emily (Melott) Prichard. She graduated from Brown School in 1932, and Hornick High School in 1936. She attended Wayne State College for one year, then taught in rural schools for five years. Effie obtained her teaching degree from Morningside College in 1965, and taught for 22 years, with 20 years just in the Westwood School District.

Effie was a member of the Hornick United Methodist Church for many years. Her family was truly a blessing to her and she loved to gather them together. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, playing bridge with friends and gardening. She was well known for her flowers, which she shared at church and whenever asked. Effie's grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Those left who will cherish her memory include her two sons, Tom Till of Moab, Utah, and Mark Till and his wife, Kay of Smithland, Iowa; four grandchildren, Weston Till of Smithland, Renee and her husband, Matt McDonald of Hornick, Mikenna Clokey Till of Moab, Utah, and John Bryce Till of Moab; two great-grandchildren, Rylee McDonald and Aiden McDonald; her brothers, Paul Prichard of Mapleton, Iowa, and Steward "Duke" Prichard of Hornick; her sister, Emily Grace Parker of Orange, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, George Prichard Till; her husband, George; four brothers, Wayne Prichard, Fred Prichard, Basil Prichard and Gordon Prichard, and her two sisters, Helen Birchard and Dorothy Reznek.
