CUSHING, Iowa -- Lloyd E. Henderson, 79, of Cushing passed away on Friday, May 28, 2010, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Cushing, with the Rev. Sheryl K. Ashley officiating. Burial will be at the Cushing Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion F. Roger Baumann Post 624 of Cushing. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.

Lloyd Everett Henderson was born Sept. 30, 1930, in Cushing, to George and Linda (Andresen) Henderson. He spent his early education at the Battle Creek Public Schools and later finished eighth grade at the country school one half mile from where he lived. He graduated from Cushing High School in 1948. For a short period of time, he worked at a packing plant in Sioux Falls, S.D., and also as a farm laborer. In July 1951, he entered the U.S. Army and took basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. In February 1952, he went overseas to fight in the Korean conflict. He was discharged in July 1953.

Lloyd married Dorothy Arp on Feb. 10, 1952, while home on leave before going to Korea. To this union three children were born, Bruce, Georgia and Jeffrey. They bought and lived on the family farm since 1966.

He was a life member of American Legion F. Roger Baumann Post 624, where he held several different offices. He held offices in the county, district and department legion. He was also a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9124 of Oto, Iowa. Lloyd served on the Department of Veterans Affairs, the FMHA Board and on the Soil and Water Conservation Board. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cushing, where he served in different offices.

Lloyd leaves to mourn his wife of 58 years, Dorothy of Cushing; sons, Bruce (Jan) of Odebolt, Iowa, and Jeffrey (Julie) of Cushing; grandsons, Jacob of Cushing, Joshua (Jodie) of Charter Oak, Iowa, Aaron (Andrea) of Harlan, Iowa, and Ryan of Cushing; great-grandchildren, Jace of Charter Oak, Kennedy and Drake of Harlan, and Rielyn of Cushing; brother, Donald (Betty) Clintherall, Minn.; sister, Sally (Dick) Grell of Worland, Wyo.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Delbert and Mary Shever of Holstein, Iowa, Harold Arp of Holstein, Harlan Arp of Salem, Ore., and Norine Lorenzen of Holstein; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Georgia Lynn; brothers, Robert and Larry; sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Lewis Hammer; a brother-in-law, Robert Lorenzen; and sisters-in-law, Sharlotte Arp and Sandra Arp.
