SERGEANT BLUFF -- Sheryl Irene Baker, 59, of Sergeant Bluff died Friday, June 25, 2010 at a local hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church in Bronson, Iowa, with the Rev. Cynthia Ripperger officiating. A cremation will follow the service, with burial at a later date. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Sheryl Irene Baker was born on Oct. 17, 1950 in Sioux City, the daughter of Dale and Luella (Buckland) Vermilyea. She graduated from Woodbury Central in 1969. On Nov. 2, 1979 Sheryl was united in marriage to Keith Baker in Elk Point, S.D.

Sheryl was the activity director at Mattney's Westside Nursing Home and later she worked as a CNA at Mercy Medical Center until 2002. She also was a volunteer helper at Westwood Nursing Home.

Sheryl enjoyed karaoke, crafting and going to craft shows. She loved going to stock car racing events and watching her son participate in racing his vehicles.

Sheryl is survived by her husband, Keith; her son, Matt and his fiancee, Jenel Purdum of Sioux City; one brother, Art and his wife, Tresa of Salix, Iowa; two sisters, Carole and her husband, Mike Cross of Sioux City, and Phyllis and her husband, Keith Johnson of China Grove, N.C.; and her beloved kitty, Ruby.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Sara Jean.
