Cushing, Iowa—Francis F. Hummel, 66, of Grand Island, Nebr., formerly of the Cushing area, died Sunday, July 2, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island after a short illness.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. today at the Kleine Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. The body was cremated.
Mr. Hummel was born Dec. 28, 1928, in Cushing, the son of Ferd Jr. and Norma (Curley) Hummel. He grew up in Cushing and graduated from Cushing High School in 1948. He purchased a livestock truck and drove for several years prior to his marriage To Alice Bremer June 10, 1951, in Moville. The couple made their home in Cushing and he worked for the John Deere implement dealer in Moville. In 1958, the family moved to Spencer, where he owned and operated a Redi-Mix Sand and Gravel Co. They moved to Grand Island in 1979 and he operated Shag Service at Monfort.
He was an entrepreneur and inventor, having received several patents in his lifetime. During the last several years, he was semi-retired and worked at various occupations until his illness.
Mr. Hummel was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, the Grand Island Saddle Club, the Masonic Order and Abu Bekr Shrine Temple.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael F. of Grand Island; a daughter, Mrs. Eric (Michelle) Young of Littleton, Colo.; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert of Sloan and David of Danbury.
