Cushing, Iowa—Norma Elizabeth Hummel, 95, of Cushing died Saturday, May 14, 1994, at Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing with Pastor Douglas Opp officiating. Burial will be in the Cushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville.
Mrs. Hummel was born May 19, 1898, in Battle Creek, the daughter of Frances and Maude (Gates) Curley. She graduated from Kingsley High School in 1917 and attended the Cedar Rapids School of Business.
On May 22, 1923, she married Ferd Hummel in Cushing. She assisted him in farming and worked as kitchen help in Lou’s Café in Cushing. Mr. Hummel died July 11, 1964.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and the Cushing Birthday Club.
Survivors include three sons, Robert and his wife, Shirley of Sloan, Francis and his wife, Alice of Grand Island, Nebr., and David “Buck” and his wife, Joan of Danbury; six grandchildren and their spouses, Kathy and Andy Sieger, Kevin and Denise Hummel, Linda and John Gronert, Scott and Angelique Hummel, Michael and Beverly Hummel, and Michelle and Eric Young; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Curley; two sisters, Ferne Sunderlund and Ellen Thomson Kitterman; and a grandson, Kyle Lee Hummel.
