SIOUX CITY -- Maxine M. Behrens, 79, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at a local hospital.

Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Kevin Lee officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to meyerbroschapels.com.

Maxine was born the daughter of Lloyd and Evelyn (Patterson) Maurer on June 12, 1930, in Sioux City, Iowa. She received her schooling in Sioux City, graduating from Central High School in 1948.

Maxine married Malcom Behrens on June 5, 1950, in Sioux City. After their marriage, the couple moved to Westfield, Iowa, and lived on a farm. After a short time in Le Mars, Iowa, the couple made their home in Sioux City in 1959.

Maxine was a homemaker, staying at home to raise her three sons. She enjoyed camping and vacationing to sightsee. She loved her pets. Maxine also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Maxine is survived by her husband, Malcom Behrens of Sioux City; three sons, Randy (Diane) Behrens of Sergeant Bluff, Duane Behrens of Sioux City, and Jerry (Vicky) Behrens of Merrill, Iowa; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Charles; and one infant brother, Harold.

Pallbearers will be Matt King, Troy King, Mike Behrens, Nick Behrens, Vu Le and Steve Maurer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Siouxland or to the Siouxland Humane Society.
