..SALIX, Iowa -- Margaret Mary (Ryan) Steele of Tucson, Ariz. passed away Aug. 31, 2009, in Tucson.

Memorial services will be noon Thursday, May 27, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Salix. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, next to her parents.

Margaret Mary Ryan Steele was born Oct. 21, 1925, in Mitchell, S.D. She was the only child of Ida Mae and Daniel James Ryan of White River, S.D. She went to preschool and lived on a farm five miles west of White River. She attended elementary school and her first two years of high school at White River Schools. Her junior and senior year of high school were attended at St. Mary's Academy in O'Neill, Neb. She received her bachelor's degree from St. Mary's Collage in Xavier, Kan., in 1947. She worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tucson for 30 years as a dietitian and hospital administrator.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann (Robert) Walkinshaw and Ellen Marie (William) Steele-Epling; five grandchildren, Leslie, Adam, Elliott, Sarah and Hanna; and four great-grandchildren, Cullen, Jessa, Tyler and Jadyn.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to her beloved parish, Sacred Heart Church, 601 E. Fort Lowell Road, Tucson, AZ 85705-3997.
