SIOUX CITY -- Howard Shaw Barrows, 84, formerly of Sioux City, passed away May 2, 2010, at Village Care Center in Lee's Summit, Mo.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.

Howard was born July 23, 1925, in Columbia Heights, Minn., to Viva Shaw Barrows and Howard Morton Barrows. Howard graduated from University High School in Minneapolis, following which he served in World War II with the 89th Infantry Division, the "Rolling W," in Europe. After service he was a salesman and later worked as a draftsman in the engineering department of Sioux Tools in the development of new tools. He retired in 1990, moving to Kimberling City, Mo., following the death of his wife, Shirley Barrows.

He was a 50-year Mason and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a 35-year member of SPEBSQSA and served as an officer in several chapters.

Howard is survived by three children, Barbara Grant of Marsland, Neb., Bradley Barrows of Lincoln, Neb., and Robert Woods of Lincoln, Neb.; stepdaughters, Kathy Jones of Springfield, Ill., and Sharon Susie of Sioux City; two grandsons, John Susie of Taylors, S.C., and Brian Susie of Sioux City; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Dale; a niece, Jinny Gabbert of Kimberling City, Mo.; and his former wife, Nancy Stacy Barrows of Lee's Summit, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City.
