SIOUX CITY -- Malcolm H. Erickson, 91, of Sioux City died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Covenant Church, with the Rev. Michael Zabel officiating. Private graveside services will be prior to the service Saturday. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Malcolm was born Dec. 5, 1918, in Sioux City, the son of David and Agnes (Linn) Erickson. He graduated from Central High School in 1937. He began his banking career shortly thereafter. He worked for Livestock National Bank for 45 years, retiring in 1983, as vice president and cashier. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving as a medic for four years in Stockton, Calif.

Malcolm married Jane Peterson, also of Sioux City, on May 8, 1943, in Stockton. After the war, they returned to Sioux City, where they raised their four children. Jane died July 26, 1988.

On Aug. 21, 1993, Malcolm married Darlene Brennan. They enjoyed golfing, traveling, gardening and cooking. He was proud of his two holes-in-one and had been looking forward to getting his golf clubs out this spring.

He was a lifelong member of First Covenant Church and served in many leadership roles there as well as serving on the National Pension Board and the executive board of the Evangelical Covenant Church. He was still teaching an adult Sunday School class when he became ill in February. He was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club and a past member of S.C.O.R.E. He also belonged to the South Ridge Golf and Dome.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; three daughters, Hilve and Doug Osella of Loomis, Calif., Glenna and Dennis Tevis of Webster City, Iowa, and Lynne and Dennis Boulden of Sioux City; a son, Myron and Mindy Erickson of Chicago, Ill.; six grandchildren; three great-grandsons; a sister, Virginia and Robert Broline of Mercer Island, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane; his parents; two sisters, Hilve Erickson and Elsie Marie Rhoten; and a brother, Arden Erickson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Covenant Church and to Hospice of Siouxland.
