SIOUX CITY -- Penny Elizabeth Welch, 50, of Sioux City passed away on Monday, May 3, 2010, at her home with her loving family by her side.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson, S.D., with the Rev. David Roehrich officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, with a wake service at 7 p.m., at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Saturday morning at the church. Anderson-Siecke-Kober Funeral Home in Elk Point, S.D. is in charge of arrangements. Penny was born Nov. 28, 1959, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Darrell and Virginia (Huffman) Oberg. She graduated from Elk Point High School in 1978.

She married the love of her life, Mark Welch on Aug. 23, 1980, in Union County, S.D. They were blessed with two beautiful sons, Cody and Christopher. Penny worked as an office manager at Cable One for 20 years, before retiring in January 2010 due to her health.

She dearly loved her pets, which included two dogs, Gus, and Grace, and two cats, Tanner, and Peyton. She was absolutely crazy for anything Elvis. She loved camping, and took great joy in making others laugh and particularly enjoyed laughing at herself. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Mark of Sioux City; sons, Cody Welch (fiancee, Malynda) of Havre, Mont., and Christopher Welch and his special friend, Shonna, of Sioux City; her mother, Virginia Oberg of Sioux City; brothers and sisters-in-law, David (Judy) Oberg of Jefferson, S.D., Jeff Oberg and his special friend, Laura of Custer, S.D., Mark Oberg of Sioux City, Joel (Joyce) Oberg of Hudson, S.D., Todd (Cathy) Oberg of Sioux City, and Christopher (Cindy Buys) of Sioux City; brother-in-law, Ed (Donna) Welch of Elk Point, S.D.; grandchildren, Aubrey, and Collin Welch, both of Havre, Mont., and Kayiah Welch of Oakland, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Penny is preceded in death by her father, Darrell Oberg; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Matthew and Mary Welch; and her niece, Tiffany Oberg.
